H. What is it like for you to be followed by so many people every day?
Like most 22-year old males, I like to think I have a normal life. I realize the impact I may have on people mostly when I am requested for an interview like this one. I will be honest, I do not think too much about the idea of influence. I believe it is how I stay grounded. My blog and Instagram account have presented a unique opportunity for me to share my views on style and life in general and that's what I focus my energy on.
H. How did you become the Editor of igeeokafor.com and a fashion icon?
I started my blog in 2013, posting photos of my outfits and articles explaining the looks to my readers. I promoted my blog via Instagram. People seemed to appreciate it and I started getting featured on other accounts. Soon I’ve widened my blog to include my other interests: food, architecture, interior design and travel.
H. Is there something we do not know about you?
I would not mind a feature on a Disney Channel original musical. Haha!
H. How do you choose your spectacles or shades?
Hmm, I go to my favourite eyewear shop and try all the spectacles I like based on design and shape. I choose the ones fitting better my style and suiting my personality.
H. What are your suggestion / advice to define your style?
I describe my style as crisp and clean. I like clean lines, well fitted, and proportioned structures. I don't like distractions. I am inspired by a lot of relaxed, preppy and dapper influences, and I try to balance these genres into my style.
H. Who or what inspires you?
My family is my first source of inspiration. Everything I do is for them. The idea of motivation keeps me inspired. I am very goal oriented. I am also inspired by everything that makes me smile - anything that sparks my curiosity: art, music, fashion, books, documentaries, movies, friends... It could be something as simple as a 60 second Instagram video. For example, last week I came across a video of @queenteddy dancing freely a French/African music in the streets of her city. To me she was not simply entertaining, she was authentically expressing herself and her hometown pride. That was inspiring to me. I could not stop watching it.
H. Who would you like to work with and what are your plans for the future?
There are a lot of people I admire and brands I love and would like to partner with: Tom Ford, Victoria Beckham, Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, Gucci, Burberry. For the future, let's just say I’d like all the people I admire wearing Igee Okafor.
H. The corner of your city you like most
The corner of New York City I like the most would be the SoHo/West Village
H. Your favourite holiday destination
Anywhere my family is.
H. The book that everyone must read
“The Richest Man in Babylon” by George S. Clason. My mother forced me to read this. I say forced because I always choose so I was a bit sceptical about the book. It turned out to be one of the most insightful and inspiring books I have ever read teaching about finance, self motivation, giving back and charm. I am glad I was forced to read it.
