Anna-Karin Karlsson – The Queen of Sunglasses
Wearing Anna-Karin Karlsson will make you feel like a queen or a king. Since age 19, this talented and multifaceted eyewear designer, but also artist and business woman has learnt in one of most renowned opticians in London the art of creating made to measure frames.
Inspired by music, art and acting, Anna-Karin has developed her own vision of meticulous craftsmanship and divine composition that is realized in every piece of her collection.
The Hugues meets Anna-Karin, in between Paris and Milan fashion weeks, to discover more about herself and her dreams. When we asked her who she would like to see wearing her frames, the answer was nonetheless... HRM the Queen!
H. Who is Anna-Karin Karlsson?
Pippi Longstocking’s mother (if she ever had one!). Sometimes with that famous bag of money and sometimes not.
H. You are a multi-talent woman, how did the Anna-Karlosson eyewear project start?
Since I can remember life has always been about arts in many shapes or forms.
Eyewear and Accessories is something that I fell into without a specific plan.
H. Anna-Karin where do you find inspiration for your collections?
I try to make life as beautiful as possible, so my inspiration is to deliver beauty and dreams dressed as sunglasses.
H. What would be next trend to hit in eyewear?
Hopefully a more individual style. There is a great selection and wit around shoes but not around eyewear.
H. Sunglasses are an important fashion accessory, how to select the best one?
There is also a health aspect linked to the selection of sunglasses, as many out there are terrible for your eyes and health. I reckon one should choose the eyewear that feels the most magical on the face and enhances one's life best possible. Let it be as beautiful as a sculpture on a shelf.
H. Materials, quality and design. What else makes a perfect pair of glasses?
Something that makes you smile. To get out a bad mood, I used to paint freckles on my face… with a glance at myself in the mirror I felt better again.
I enjoy taking my self not so seriously.
H. The corner (bar or restaurant) of your city you like most, your favourite holiday destination
In Stockholm I tend to go to Riche for dinner although I very seldom go out as I have a family and business to attend to.
As for holidays I have not been to that many but what stands out is the 2 month I spent around Italy “Glamour packing”.
